Product Costing Sheet Format in Excel: Materials, Labour, Overhead & Selling Price

A costing sheet format in Excel that builds the true cost per unit of every product or recipe from materials with waste, labour by operation and allocated overheads, then prices it at your target margin. Works as a product costing template, cost sheet template and food or recipe costing template.

Product Costing Sheet Format is a complete cost sheet template in Excel for makers, food producers, bakeries, workshops and small manufacturers. Each product gets a bill of materials or recipe, its labour steps and a fair share of overheads, and the workbook turns them into the classic cost sheet format: direct materials, direct labour and direct expenses make the prime cost, factory overheads give the works cost, administration overheads give the cost of production, and selling and distribution overheads give the total cost of sales. Add profit and you reach the selling price, shown per batch, per unit and as a % of cost.

Materials hold your price list with a buy unit and a usage unit, so a 25 kg sack bought at one price is costed per gram automatically. The Bill of Materials tab lists the quantity of every material or ingredient per batch with a waste % for trimming, spillage or breakage, which makes it work as a recipe costing template and food costing template as well as a product costing template for manufactured goods. Labour by operation records setup minutes per batch, minutes per unit and the number of workers for each step, with role rates that include payroll taxes and benefits.

Overheads are allocated the way cost accountants do it: by machine hours, labour hours, units made, % of materials or % of prime cost. Enter the annual cost and the annual base volume and the allocation rate is calculated for you. Products then show good units after yield, materials, labour, prime cost, factory, administration and selling overheads, total cost per batch and the unit cost, with margin and markup at your current price, the price at your target margin rounded up to your price step, and a status of On target, Below target or Below cost.

The Cost Sheet tab presents any product in a simple cost sheet format ready to print, with every material line, labour operation and overhead pool itemized. Batch & Pricing shows how unit cost falls across eight batch sizes as setup time and per-batch costs spread over more units, plus a margin vs markup table. Price History logs each new supplier price with its date; materials always use the latest price and every product shows how much its cost moved since the previous prices. The Dashboard brings unit cost breakdowns, margins, products below target and the biggest material price changes together.

Tax rates and fees are not hard-coded, the currency label and default target margin are editable, and the workbook suits any country. Capacity covers 30 products, 200 materials, 600 bill of materials lines, 300 labour operations, 20 overhead pools and 500 price updates. Calculated cells are locked and sheet protection has no password. Sample data from a fictional small food business is included. Built for Microsoft Excel 2016 or later (desktop or Excel for the web) and contains no macros.
